An Orthodox coalition will lead Argentina's central Jewish institution, unseating the Labor party after 50 years.
The new
leadership was announced Tuesday evening at a representatives' assembly.
None of the five parties vying to lead the Buenos Aires-based AMIA received the majority needed to assume the presidency in the April 13 election.
The United Religious bloc was formed just hours before Tuesday's assembly when the party AMIA For All, which opposes the current leadership and is critical of the national Argentine government, threw its support behind the Orthodox coalition led by Rabbi Samuel Levin.
Rabbi Sergio Bergman, a leader of the Progressive Judaism Movement in Argentina, heads AMIA For All.
The new leadership will take office June 12, with Guillermo Borger as president and Angel Barman as vice president.
